Is bamboo bedding worth it?

Written by Claire van Ryn

We’re so glad you asked, because the answer is a resounding yes! One hundred per cent, no hesitation, yes. Like, this-will-change-your-sleeping-life yes.

Bamboo yarn is spun from fibres of the fast-growing bamboo plant. The yarn is processed to create a fine thread which is woven into the fabric we have come to know and appreciate as a superior bedding choice.

Trends come and go, but bamboo bedding is with us to stay thanks to the many benefits that relate not only to aesthetics, but hygiene, longevity, comfort and convenience.

Let’s look at that in some more detail.

Five reasons to fall in love with bamboo bedding. ✨

1. Up to 15 years of life.

Bamboo sheets are extremely durable thanks to the naturally longer fibres of the bamboo plant. Other fabrics are typically woven with shorter fibres meaning they are more likely to pill and tear over time. Of course, the longevity of your bamboo sheets also relies on you looking after them well. That is, machine wash in cold water on a gentle cycle (no fabric softener), and line dry if you can, or tumble dry on low heat and speed.

2. Bedding that regulates temperature.

Bamboo fabric is wonderfully breathable. This is great news for those couples that comprise one hot sleeper and one cold sleeper, or those who suffer from night sweats. Relief! Not only that, but bamboo sheets will help you stay cool on hot summer nights and cosy through winter’s chill.

3. Hypoallergenic and antibacterial.

Do you suffer from allergies? Bamboo sheets are antibacterial and hypoallergenic thanks to their incredible moisture-absorbance. We’re talking four times more absorbent than cotton. All the nasties that tend to cause allergy flare-ups are attracted to moisture: dust mites, germs, mold. Bamboo keeps your sleeping environment dry and might be just what you need to ward off the sniffles.

4. Soft and wrinkle-resistent.

There’s bamboo bedding and there’s bamboo bedding. Like any product, you will find a whole spectrum of quality out there. But if you select your product well, you’ll find bamboo fabric to be silky soft and lustrous — perfect for sensitive skin. Take our own bamboo bedding range which is 400-thread-count. Our customers say that once you try them, you won’t sleep on anything else, and we agree. They are also naturally wrinkle-free, provided they don’t live in a washing basket, of course!

5. Available in six different colours.

We love bamboo bedding so much that we stock it in six versatile colours: coral pink, latte, silver, charcoal, white and black. Choose a sheet set to match your doona cover and decor, or start fresh with a bamboo cover in this luxe, durable and hygienic fabric. You won’t regret it!
